Started season 4 of Killjoys. I really love the John-Dutch dynamic**. The series plays as heist/action road show — makes me think of The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., for example. I’m also a big fan of the characters visual esthetic, like when Hannah John-Kamen is about 45% hair by volume or the bartender comes out with a bald head and glitter eyebrows and it’s only moderately ridiculous given his history. Also everyone on the show is pretty even by TV standards. It’s like if a CW show had some interest in storytelling.
Shanda has been distracted all day today. And tense. I presume she’s anxious about going back to work but she hasn’t been up for talking about it yet. She self-prescribed a nap and agreed to do some scheduling when she gets up, so hopefully we’re on the upswing.
Domains finally all transferred, approximately 478 clicks and 47 two-factor logins later. On the plus side I now have my passport number memorized.
Finished S2 of Westworld. It murders everyone, but of course that doesn’t mean anything in a show with printed copies of people. That show desperately wants you to know that using tradition in place of feedback isn’t a form of control you want to have. And it’s willing to murder capitalists to make its point.
I think maybe there’s a podcast about control, with a terrible feeling about being denied access to your home by your caretaker via physical control of keys (or key-less deadbolts). I think I can connect keys to tradition, tradition to feedback systems, and feedback to control. It’s still only in pieces though, and not yet a podcast.
The classes part of school starts today for M and A (and probably others). Many other parts have already been in effect for a week. I still have a really disjointed view of my life during undergrad, and classes are actually not a thing a I remember well. I’m not sure if that means I didn’t have any strong feelings about them, or if I just didn’t go enough for it to bother me, or if it was something I was super stressed about. High school starts again soon too — I am avoiding that, but mostly because it’s nice to not have too many standing evening appointments, and I so I don’t want to imagine the end of summer.
I think Melissa may have been talked into starting treatment again. Someone finally recommended an intensive treatment program that will let her use her phone 16 hours a day (i.e. not inpatient), which is very important to her. But whatever, it’s better than what she has been doing — nothing. Now she’s waiting to get fired before she actually starts, because letting a supervisor you think hates you decide when you can have medical care sounds like a great plan. Passive to the point of self-destruction is sort of her problem though, so I don’t know what else I expect. I guess we’ll see what she does.

*Shanda and I are both into hair. I really like that she has decided to have fun hair recently, and to talk about it and let me do it with her. It almost makes me willing to deal with my own hair, but the 0% maintenance plan is also pretty nice.
