DMX Daddy

Got many things done. Clean Dog, white hair, trash, dishes, laundry, sheets, floating costume, soldering, LEGO labels, robot competition. Lots of feels about working together. The broken toe makes many things intense, even if we weren’t on a deadline and anticipating travel.

Major OS updates on the home automation controller. Not planned. The DMX interface died due to upstream maintenance rot, and to make fixing it less terrible I pulled the OS up to date under it. Lots of security tweaks and updates required to get it going, during which none of the lights or garage door work at all. I would have liked to pick the time for it but I’m glad it’s done. I’ve also decoupled from upstream since all they’ve done for me lately is break things – now only my own bad decisions will hurt me.

Talked to DerbyK today, about having care. About wanting it. About what it actually looks like and who it taxes. My experience with “care” is pretty uniformly bad, and it’s hard for me to believe that how I feel is relevant to what “care” 1Euphoria S01E04 is pretty clear on this sort of “help”, wherein the victim of an assault is bodily restrained while her shirt is cut off to force her to give evidence. So I’m trying to hear about having help, particularly with being sick.

My boss is out this week so no need to office at all. I’ve got releases for Tuesday, an SR to kill, and I want to spin up a script host before I travel on Thursday. I also need to generate some sort of SDLC training documentation before the end of the year, which I want to imagine could be fun but I fear will be dull and never used.

There’s writing to do. There’s some dread to pull apart, before the end of the week. There’s the Truman write up. I’m sure there’s something to be said about tension and togetherness. But it will be more useful tomorrow, so I will save it.

1 Euphoria S01E04 is pretty clear on this sort of “help”, wherein the victim of an assault is bodily restrained while her shirt is cut off to force her to give evidence. People tell her this is necessary to protect her, that they know it’s traumatic, that they know it’s not what she wants. But they are going to have her compliance even if it requires violence. All while they explain how only their “love” is real, an no one else can be trusted. Meanwhile her attacker is treated with empathy – not by those close to them, but at least by those running the process – because he has the right daddy.
