Weary Wayward Watchwords

Robots went well. Didn’t win many matches but everything functioned as expected, and we had far and away the most opposing team points (a proxy for the difficulty of our matches), so it was still mostly high spirits. We had time to make code changes but the risk was too high with our untuned systems to do anything useful. No significant panic from anyone which was welcome. Still too many people but only occasionally intolerable. Shanda drove me there and brought me lunch*, and I got to TV Hulk walk away at the end of the episode (to get to the bus stop). And the robot party eyes were well recieved.

Really happy with a multi-layer process I used to get deep blue with star fields [fig 1]. It reminds me of the nail job I started with in Canada, but cooler. And I refined the process to get good 3D glitter depth with less bulk. It’s nothing magic but I like getting better at this.

I came up with a new collector design for our robot that people are excited about. We currently have a crude scoop; I’m proposing a sort of whack-a-mole adaptation where material enters through the bottom when the device is slammed down, and is captured by a check valve of flexible material. I’m glad other people like it because I can see it happen without having to build it myself – wishing cool things into existence is my favorite activity.

Feels advanced today when Shanda talked with her parents. A release for some of her grief about childhood as she recaptures some control of those interactions. It’s still sad that she couldn’t have what she needed, but happy to not feel so hopeless about needing it anymore. To no longer feel like she is incapable of getting what she needs, even if the supposed ideal isn’t available.

Almost connected with M. It’s getting to have been a long time since I had important things or even a taco. In part that’s me not keeping up my unending demands for attention. It would be nice to get something like that going again though, if that’s a plausible option.

More sleep I think. Even if The Screed is still thin. I’ve still got to get through D&D (and whatever nonsense our GM brings), two days of work, and a robot meeting before I get time off. Before I can even get to more CritRole. So frenetic is still my watchword.
